The Future of Heating
Working towards a greener future!
The future of home heating has been a hot topic in the news recently, with a lot of speculation about the future of gas boilers. We want to update you on what Worcester Bosch are doing and help you to understand what the government targets really mean and the affect this will have on the future of gas boilers.
As a leading manufacturer of heating and hot water systems for homes in the UK, Worcester Bosch is continuing to invest in the technologies of the future so that when the time comes to change our heating systems, you can rest assured that Worcester Bosch will be there to provide all of the heating and hot water requirements needed.
Gas Boilers Won’t be Banned by 2025
A new gas boiler is still a worthwhile investment
If you purchase a new gas boiler now, it will continue to run on natural gas until the end of it’s lifetime. However, in the future we are likely to see gas boilers being slowly phased out in favour of greener options. For the time being, a new gas boiler could still vastly improve your energy efficiency.

First Signs of Change

Hydrogen Boilers
Hydrogen is a carbon free fuel. A hydrogen-ready boiler is a gas-fired heating boiler which is capable of burning either natural gas, pure (100%) hydrogen or a blend of both.

Heat Pumps
Air source heat pumps extract heat energy from the air and pass it through a coil where the gas turns back to a liquid, typically using less energy than it produces.

Hybrid Systems
A hybrid heating and hot water system is a combination of two or more technologies generating heat to provide heating and hot water to the home or
building.

Worcester Bosch Gas Boilers Are Hydrogen-Blend Ready
We’re ready for the switch. Are you?
Worcester Bosch’s current range of highly efficient Greenstar gas boilers are able to run on a 20% hydrogen blend, so once you purchase a new Worcester Bosch boiler, you can be confident your boiler will run on gas for its lifetime.
By 2025, hydrogen ready boilers will begin to become more commonplace. The widespread roll-out of 100% hydrogen boilers is on track to occur in the 2030s.
Converting a hydrogen-ready boiler from natural gas to hydrogen will take around an hour and only involves changing a couple of components.
What About Oil Boilers?
A simple solution to greener heating could be on the way for the UK’s off-grid oil heated homes.
A new fuel, called Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), is made from fossil free, certified sustainable waste materials sourced without harming the environment and reduces emissions by almost 90%.
Worcester Bosch Heatslave or Danesmoor boilers manufactured after September 2018 (or September 2019 for outputs between 35-70kW) can be converted to operate safely and efficiently on HVO by using a HVO conversion kit. This conversion kit is due to launch soon.
