Advantages:

If looked after properly, the average lifespan of a combi gas boiler is around 10-15 years. Regular boiler servicing is advised as it can mean your boiler should last longer.

We'd recommend replacing your boiler when repairs get too expensive as this should then be more economical and save you money long-term.

Some other signs to look out for are:

• It's making noises. Gurgling, hissing, whistling and banging can be a sign something is wrong and might be a build-up of sludge.
• The flame isn't blue. Your boiler flame should be blue so if it is yellow, orange or white then it is not burning fuel properly. This can also be a sign that your boiler is producing carbon monoxide and should be treated as an emergency.
• Pilot light keeps going out. This most commonly means the thermocouple needs replaced - this will require a boiler engineer to replace.
